    kinda cheap isn't it

according to yahoo: Vick gives $10,000 for victim families

    April 19, 2007

ATLANTA (AP) -- Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick has teamed up with the United Way to donate $10,000 to assist families affected by the massacre at Virginia Tech, his former school.

"When tragic things like this happen, families have enough to deal with, and if I can help in some small way, that's the least I can do," said Vick, who played for the Hokies before being drafted No. 1 overall by the Falcons in 2001.

The Vick Foundation is collecting donations from local communities in both Atlanta and Virginia that will be placed in the United In Caring Fund for Victims of the VA Tech Tragedy and the special fund at the United Way of Montgomery, Radford and Floyd counties, which serves the Virginia Tech area.

Vick's foundation said the money will be used to provide help with funeral expenses, transportation for family members and other support services.

considering this was his school and his state i just thought he may give more considering all the money he makes or maybe he is doing like most other athletes and spending it quicker than he makes it

I have to acknowledge that giving is giving, regardless of the amount. Kudos for giving.

I'll add, the average funeral costs these days is about $7K (based on what I've been told by coworkers here who've had family members pass recently).
    You'll shoot your eye out.

    $7000 is cheap. Very cheap.

Giving money to the United Way is like throwing it in a river.

I think the NFL should take the $100,000 they just fined Brian Urlacher for wearing a VitaminWater hat and drinking VitaminWater during a press conference at the Super Bowl and give that to the familys. I agree though, giving is giving, anybody that can help should, no matter how small the amount.

A donation is a donation regardless of the amount. But why should he have to donate? We shouldnt be arguing over the fact of how much it was.

    Re: kinda cheap isn't it

I was just noting that they said it was supposed to go to funeral assistance, support, transportation, etc. (multiple items).
He could be paying for one full funeral with that donation, but he won't be able to get much more out of the money.
It's just a discussion about what could be done with that amount.
    You'll shoot your eye out.
